Motorbike MOT
A motorbike MOT lasts for a year and every motorcycle, moped or scooter over 3 years old is required by law to have one. The date it runs out is printed on the last pass certificate.
Clarendon motorcycles have invested heavily in training and equipment to ensure their status as an approved MOT test centre in Hull offering Class I and Class II MOT’s for mopeds, scooters and motorcycles. The motorbike MOT station number is V106670 with all certification available for viewing upon request. All accredited MOT test centres have testers who have passed a training course from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) a government agency who sets the standards of MOTs and regularly checks up on MOT testers to ensure they’re meeting the right standards. DVSA deal with complaints and can also discipline and prevent MOT test centres from carrying out the tests if they are below standard.

What Clarendon motorcycles will not do is risk their reputation and licence for passing a bike that doesn’t meet the rules set out by the DVSA.
If your motorcycle was manufactured before 1960 you don’t need an MOT. and you can get a motorbike MOT up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same MOT renewal date.

Motorbike MOT Checklist
To avoid a simple MOT failure it is advisable to pre-check your motorbike against the MOT checklist detailed below before booking your motorcycle, scooter or moped in for its MOT.
LIGHTS AND SIGNALS
Make sure all your lights, brake lights and indicators work and are fixed securely. The headlamp(s) will also be checked to see if the aim is correct. You must also display a red reflector to the rear of your bike and have a functioning horn.
STEERING AND SUSPENSION
Nothing should prevent the smooth rotation this includes badly routed cables and worn head stock or wheel bearings. Forks or rear shocks mustn’t leak and should be firmly attached and filled with the correct amount of oil.
BRAKES
Your brakes need to work and be able to adequately stop the motorcycle. The brake pads, disks or drums of the motorbike will be checked.
TYRES
The tyres must be seated on the wheel rims correctly and visible tread on both tyres must be at least 1mm. The condition of the valves will be checked. Bulges or cracks in the side wall are not good at all, nor are cuts over 25mm.
SIDE CARS
If your motorbike has sidecar it must be securely fitted, the tyres and suspension must be up to the standard of the rest of the bike and all three wheels of the combination should point in the same direction.
BODY AND STRUCTURE
Check headstocks, swing arms, suspension mounting points, loose parts and for missing engine bolts. Enough corrosion to affect the structure of the motorcycle will fail the MOT too.
FUEL AND EXHAUST
Motorcycle exhausts stamped with ‘not for road use’, which leak or are too loud, will not pass the MOT. The fuel system will be checked for leaks and the security of its components.
NUMBER PLATES
Motorbike number plates must feature a full size surround and digits, showing the manufacturers postcode and the correct BS mark. Current number plate guidelines are available here.
